Welcome to our Church!

Asst. & Successor to H.H  Baselius Mar Thoma Didymus I
H.H Baselius Mar Thoma Didymus I
Catholicose of the East and Malankara Metropolitan
H.G. Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaios
Diocesan Metropolitan
Patron Saints of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church
(Catholicate of the East)

The members of our church who came  from different places and settled down in Ernakulam for various purposes did not have a place to worship for many years. As a result of their untiring efforts, a plot of land was purchased in 1922 and a small church was built in the name of St. Mary in 1926.

First 'Qurbana' was led by Rev.Murimattathil Geevarghese Kathanar and First vicar was Rev.Jacob Murikkal Kathanar. God Almighty blessed this parish abundantly. The immense progress it has made and the developments that took place over the years are tremendous. Fifty years after the establishment of the church, a chapel was constructed at Elamkulam. After sixty years chapels were built at Thevara and Palarivattom and these two chapels became independent churches in due course of time as  decided by the parish assembly.

The late Metropolitan H.G Joseph Mar Pachomios and the present Catholicose designate H.G Paulose Mar Milithios were ordained High Priests while they were serving  St. Mary's Church. Considering the fact that St.Mary's Church is the mother church for all Orthodox churches in Ernakulam and taking into account the support the parish has rendered to the church and its leaders from time to time, H.H Baselius Marthoma Mathews II, the Catholicose raised this parish to the status of a Cathedral on 25th March 2001.

A large number of Orthodox  families in Ernakulam continue to be members of this parish.
